Montana! Montana! Montana! Erase what you think you know about Montana. Go and be there to soak it all in. It's refreshing to know these places exist in our very own back yard. I heard on NPR the other day that there is no land that isn't effected by humans. Makes me want to go right now and see it all.
For my 27th birthday my wife and parents took me camping for 10 days in the beautiful and jaw dropping Montana. We stayed mainly in Northwestern part of the state covering Glacier National Park, Yaak, and Marion, Montana. Stopped in Kalispell because a visit to Kalispell without going to Snappy's Sporting Goods isn't a visit at all! You can see video footage of the trip over on Kelli's YouTube Channel. I'll be posting separate blog posts per each campsite!
The photos below are from a hike to a retired lookout tower on McGuire Mountain. Earlier this month I had just finished playing the new indie game, Firewatch, where you live in a lookout tower and watch over the forest. (I highly recommend it!) So I was pretty excited to see one in real life. It was exactly like the game! People had left behind goods and supplies for the next person. I even found guest notebooks dating back to 1998. It was so cool to be there. The best part is you can rent it and stay the night!! That was our original plan but the hike in was 2.5 miles and we didn't pack the gear for it, maybe next time!.
